In view of the growing regional air connectivity market in India, Airbus has introduced its latest single aisle A220 the 100 to 150 seater into the country to fill in the gap between the existing 70 seat turboprop and a 180 or 200 seat larger single aisle.
India has an expanding aviation market and thus demands more and more aircrafts to fit its need. A220 family gives operators a new option for an aircraft type and new options in terms of capabilities of this aircraft that it can operate out of smaller airports than the A320 family. The A220 can take off from airstrips longer than 1,200 metres.
The A220, with the largest and quietest cabin in its class is capable of offering a wide-body passenger comfort in a single-aisle aircraft. The A220 comes with Pratt & Whitney engines. It incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, the latest aerodynamic design and new generation engines resulting in fuel savings of 20%. It is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100-150 seat market and offers extended range capability of up to 3,400 nautical miles making it particularly suitable for operations in India. The A220 comes in two variants — 100-120 seater A220-100 and 120-150 seater A220-300.
