In a relief to Air India pilots, who were sacked in August last year, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered the national carrier to reinstate them.

Justice Jyoti Singh ordered Air India to reinstate the pilot and pay them back wages after hearing the petitions filed by the pilots.

Citing the reason of financial crisis due to the pandemic the national carrier terminated a total 61 Air India pilots in August 2020.

The pleas filed by sacked pilots had sought the quashing of the April 2 2020 order suspending their services, and the subsequent order of August 7, by which they were all terminated.

The court also said that extension of contract, in the future, of the contractual pilots would be at the discretion of the carrier in view of their satisfactory performance.

The court said the detailed judgement would be available only on Wednesday.
