To further expand air connectivity in the northeastern region under the Regional Connectivity Scheme-Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (RCS-UDAN), Flybig is starting its operations in the new routes connecting Assam’s Guwahati and Dibrugarh on Friday.
The private airliner Flybig on Friday started the direct flight services from Agartala to Guwahati and Agartala to Dibrugarh. Flybig would operate three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) on these routes.
A water cannon salute was accorded to the first flight at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, 20 km north of the capital city Agartala.
Flybig last month had started its operation in the Guwahati-Pasighat (Arunachal Pradesh) routes under the RCS-UDAN scheme.
Currently there are 15 airports in the northeast region : Guwahati, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tezpur, Lilalabari and Rupsi (Assam), Tezu and Pasighat (Arunachal Pradesh), Agartala (Tripura), Imphal (Manipur), Shillong (Meghalaya), Dimapur (Nagaland), Lengpui (Mizoram) and Pakyong (Sikkim).
